Read a collections report correctly

Compare invoiced revenue, successful payments and outstanding balances using the same reporting period and definitions.

  1. Choose a consistent period

Confirm the report dates, business scope and available filters. A report grouped by invoice date may differ from one grouped by payment date.

  2. Review adjustments

Check credits, refunds, partial payments and manual transfers before interpreting a difference. Use the underlying records to explain the balance rather than changing figures to make totals match.

  3. Assign an operational follow-up

Identify invoices that need a billing correction, provider-status review or customer reminder. Give each exception an owner and review the result in the next reporting cycle.
